The Strymon NightSky Time-Warped Reverberator is not a traditional reverb pedal, it’s a full reverberant synthesis workstation designed for experimental sound design, ambient composition, and evolving sonic textures. Built around a powerful SHARC DSP engine, it goes far beyond standard hall, room, or plate reverbs by allowing you to physically “reshape” the reverb itself in real time, turning ambience into an instrument.
At its core, NightSky introduces a variable reverb process rate, meaning you can stretch, compress, and even pitch-shift the reverb tail itself. This creates everything from slowly evolving pads to unstable, glitched, or harmonically shifting spaces. Combined with onboard sequencing and deep modulation, it becomes a performance tool rather than just an effects pedal.
Features
- Time-warped reverb engine with variable process rate for pitch-shifting and morphing reverb space
- Three reverb textures (Sparse, Dense, Diffuse) for different ambient densities and decay behaviours
- Shimmer section with pitch shifting up to ±1 octave for evolving harmonic trails
- Glimmer control to enhance harmonic overtones for synth-like, ethereal textures
- Resonant filter section (low-pass/high-pass shaping) for sculpting the reverb’s tonal character
- Step sequencer (8-step) for rhythmic modulation of pitch, filter, or reverb parameters
- Glide function for smooth pitch transitions between sequenced steps
- MOD section with multiple waveforms for dynamic movement within the reverb field
- Pre/Post drive saturation to add harmonic distortion inside or after the reverb engine
- Infinite sustain and freeze mode for drones, pads, and ambient layering
- Expression, MIDI, and USB control for deep real-time and studio integration
- 300 MIDI preset storage with onboard access to core sounds
- Stereo input and output for wide spatial imaging and immersive soundscapes
- Analog dry path with high-end 24-bit / 96kHz conversion for pristine signal integrity
- True bypass or buffered bypass options for flexible pedalboard integration
The NightSky is best understood as a creative sound instrument disguised as a reverb pedal. It excels at cinematic ambience, evolving pads, synth-like textures, and experimental sound design, but it intentionally avoids conventional “clean room or hall” realism. Instead, it invites you to bend, sequence, and even destabilise reverb into something far more expressive and unusual.
